Easy Tips for a Safe and Fun Halloween

Happy Hallowen from your friends at Rainbow International!

It’s that special time of year again. The days are shorter, night comes quickly and a whispering north wind skitters dry autumn leaves down the sidewalks and streets. With Halloween just three days away, your friends at Rainbow International offer the following easy safety tips. We wish you and your family a safe, fun and memory-filled old fashioned Halloween!

For those driving Halloween day and night:
Obey all traffic rules and regulations.

Slow down. Watch for children walking on roads, medians and sidewalks.

Keep your eyes on the road. Neighborhoods that don’t normally have pedestrian or bicycle traffic may experience an increase in activity on Halloween.

Enter and exit driveways carefully. Children are excited and may forget to stop, look and listen before crossing the street.

Avoid talking or texting on a cell phone while driving.

Never drink and drive. If you attend a Halloween party and plan to drink, pick a designated driver ahead of time.

Other Halloween safety tips include:

Ensure adults or older responsible youths supervise the outing for children age twelve and under.

Instruct children to travel only in familiar areas and along common, used routes.

Tell children to stop only at well-lit houses or apartments and never to enter a stranger’s home.

Pre-establish a return time.

Purchase only costumes are made of fire-retardant materials and that do not present a tripping hazard.

If children are allowed out after dark, costumes should be made with light-colored and reflective materials.

Consider makeup instead of masks. Masks can obstruct a vision.

Eat dinner as a family before children go out. Remind them not to eat treats or candy until after they get home and parents can thoroughly inspect them.

When inspecting those treats and candy, if you have any doubts as to its safety or freshness, throw it away.
