Rainbow International of The Kootenays Displays World-Class Service After Devastating Mudslide

July 20th, 2012 by Rainbow International

Widespread damage was assessed after a mudslide hit the resort village of Fairmont Hot Springs in southeastern British Columbia. Debris had been building up in the creek and formed itself into a natural dam. The area received a lot of rain, so finally the wall jam finally gave way and the wall of debris came down the mountain and into the town.

The debris took out two bridges that provided access to an RV campground on the property of the Fairmont Hot Springs Resort, cutting off access to 600 people. Crews worked hard to keep the creek water moving throughout the community and clean up efforts tended to the local golf course, which was littered with logs and boulders.

After seeing the magnitude of the mudslide on TV, local resident Lynn Hoff became concerned about water in her residence. She called Rainbow International of the Kootenays at 10 pm on Sunday asking to be put on a list for water extraction.

“Rainbow International immediately offered to come check out my home. The crew waited for the highway to reopen and showed up an hour later. I offered to pay them for the service, but they just went in and checked everything out. My home was fine, but I just commend their team. There aren’t many people in the world like that anymore,” said Hoff.

“Locals compared the sound of the mudslide to the sound of a train coming down the mountain and into the town. There were trees and rocks thrown everywhere,” said Dianna Hessel, owner of Rainbow International of the Kootenays.

“The homeowner was fortunate the water was about 20 feet from her home, but it affected a very large area including one of the golf courses. When we contacted the client back she was floored that we actually went to check on her home,” said Hessel.

When Lightning Strikes, Stay Safe

July 10th, 2012 by Rainbow International

Intense storms have already hit many parts of the country this summer, and while rain is always a good thing for parched land, there are many dangers that come along with bad weather. Next time you are out on the porch watching nature’s thrilling storms, remember how dangerous lightning can be.

Lightning is one of the top three storm killers in the United States. According to the National Weather Service, on average 58 people are killed each year by lightning. In 2012, to date, 12 people have already lost their lives to lightning strikes. People who survive lightning strikes suffer from a range of life-long problems such as: memory loss, attention deficits, sleep disorders, chronic pain, numbness, dizziness, stiffness in joints, irritability, fatigue, weakness, muscle spasms, depression, and more.

Whenever you hear thunder, lighting is not far behind. Even if you don’t see lightning, you are still within striking distance. Give yourself a head start and head in doors fast before it’s too late. Always remember this saying from the National Weather Service, “When Thunder Roars, Go Indoors!”

Being aware of the following safety guidelines, will greatly reduce your risk of danger from lightning strikes:

  • Seek shelter immediately. Find a sturdy, solid building or a vehicle with a hard top. Do not go into sheds or open vehicles, they are not safe.

  • Can’t find shelter fast enough? Look for a deep ditch or low lying area and take cover, making sure to stay as far away as possible from water.

  • Remain Inside. Stay away from any source of water and electricity. Unplugging electronics is a good idea, but if it can’t be done safely, DON’T DO IT!

  • Stay away from windows. Lightning can strike though windows if there is something giving it a path. For example: wires, metal poles, etc.

  • Try not to use telephones and electrical equipment.

  • Think the storm is over? When you think the storm is over wait at least 30 minutes after the last rumble of thunder before moving back outdoors.

If someone has been struck by lightning it is important to seek medical attention as soon as possible. Summer storms are beautiful sights, but they’re not worth risking your life! Stay safe and remember:  “When Thunder Roars, Go Indoors!”

Rainbow International Named Top 100 Franchise for Veterans

July 6th, 2012 by Rainbow International

Entrepreneur Magazine names Rainbow International as one of the Top 100 franchises for Veterans.

Franchisors have long recognized that military veterans–with their leadership skills, dedication and ability to work within a strict system–make ideal franchisees.

The International Franchise Association (IFA) estimates that one out of every seven franchises in the U.S.–more than 66,000 businesses in total–is owned and operated by a veteran.

There are many more veterans who would love to own their own business, and the biggest obstacle to that dream is money. Since the post-9/11 relaunch of the Veterans Transition Franchise Initiative (VetFran), more than 400 franchisors have offered incentives to veterans in the form of discounted startup costs. Many companies go even further to help veterans make their business ownership dreams a reality by offering additional assistance, financing help, special training and more.

To determine which franchises are doing the most to recruit and retain military veterans, the G.I. Jobs team conducts an annual survey of more than 4.000 franchises. An advisory board consisting of four franchise industry experts helps to determine the survey questions. The answers determine the list, which is tabulated by the following formula: 40 percent for a franchises’ success in recruiting veterans; 30 percent for a company’s financial efforts to recruit veterans, such as franchise fee discounts and recruiting budgets; and 30 percent for non-financial efforts to recruit veterans.
