Rainbow International Now Serving Metro Indianapolis

April 29th, 2011 by Rainbow International

Helping a home or business recover from water, fire, smoke or mold damage requires the latest technology, tools and training. However, local business owner Chris McKinney knows the human touch is equally important during such a time of need.

McKinney is the owner of Rainbow International of Metro Indianapolis, a business offering water, fire, smoke and mold damage cleanup and restoration. Other services offered include carpet, grout and tile cleaning. Rainbow International serves residents and business owners in Marion and Johnson counties and the surrounding area. Cities served include Indianapolis and Greenwood.

“I’m excited to bring the Rainbow International way of offering these services to our area,” said McKinney. “We come equipped with the best training and equipment but also realize that on many damage restoration jobs, our customers experience an acute sense of loss and displacement. We are mindful of that as we work to quickly restore their home or business and, ultimately, peace of mind.”

McKinney attended an immersive learning program at Rainbow International corporate headquarters. The program teaches water, fire, smoke and mold damage cleanup restoration science and techniques.

“I believe Rainbow International brings a new best practices standard to our area,” McKinney added. “Utilizing the most advanced equipment, innovative technologies and a built-in accountability system, our professional emergency crews complete every job rapidly to assure an uncompromising commitment to service excellence and customer satisfaction. Ultimately, we don’t just restore homes and businesses; we restore value, stability, and peace of mind.”

“Chris and his local team are a terrific addition to our growing network,” said Rainbow International President Rob White. “We’re excited to join the Metro Indianapolis area and look forward to serving its neighborhoods and businesses.”

Rainbow International Helps Local Charity

April 15th, 2011 by Rainbow International

When one of his employees made a quick stop at the Mon County Habitat for Humanity ReStore location on Greenbag Road earlier this month, local business owner Deral Phillips couldn’t have seen where the relationship between the two was headed. Now, with hindsight and a job well done, he can only smile at how a chance meeting yielded such warm results.

“One of my service professionals stopped at the Habitat for Humanity ReStore earlier that day,” said Phillips, Rainbow International® of Morgantown franchise owner. “Later, he mentioned the manager saw his uniform and vehicle and asked if we’d be interested in donating carpet cleaning services to their location. I know about the good works and community impact of Habitat for Humanity ReStore in our area and was delighted to help.”

Phillips coordinated April 4 as the best day with Habitat for Humanity ReStore staff and donated six hours and three service technicians to professionally clean over 2,600 square of carpet.

“We used a double-wand truck and discovered that since the location was previously a flooring store, there were different types of carpet in most rooms,” Phillips added. “Luckily, they were all nylon-based carpets and the job went quickly and, I think, the carpets look great.”

“We are very happy with the work Deral and his team performed,” added Ben Goff, ReStore Regional Manager. “The Rainbow International team worked quickly, professionally and exceeded our expectations.”

“Deral and his Morgantown team do great work,” said Rainbow International President Rob White. “While we’re delighted they were able to help such a worthwhile local cause, I’m not surprised by their willingness to help. Serving our communities is and always will be a core value for all Rainbow International locations.”

To view a brief video of Rainbow International performing this job, please visit the Mon County Habitat for Humanity YouTube channel at www.youtube.com/MonCountyHFH.

April Fools Day: A 300-Year-Old Annual Prank

April 1st, 2011 by Rainbow International

Happy Friday! Today is April 1, 2011, better known as April Fools’ Day! We thought you might enjoy a brief history of the 300-year-old infamous holiday as you plan (or plan to avoid) the pranks galore today.

On this day in 1700, English pranksters begin popularizing the annual tradition of April Fools’ Day by playing practical jokes on each other.

Although the day, also called All Fools’ Day, has been celebrated for several centuries by different cultures, its exact origins remain a mystery. Some historians speculate that April Fools’ Day dates back to 1582, when France switched from the Julian calendar to the Gregorian calendar, as called for by the Council of Trent in 1563. People who were slow to get the news or failed to recognize that the start of the new year had moved to January 1 and continued to celebrate it during the last week of March through April 1 became the butt of jokes and hoaxes. These included having paper fish placed on their backs and being referred to as “poisson d’avril” (April fish), said to symbolize a young, easily caught fish and a gullible person.

Historians have also linked April Fools’ Day to ancient festivals such as Hilaria, which was celebrated in Rome at the end of March and involved people dressing up in disguises. There’s also speculation that April Fools’ Day was tied to the vernal equinox, or first day of spring in the Northern Hemisphere, when Mother Nature fooled people with changing, unpredictable weather.

April Fools’ Day spread throughout Britain during the 18th century. In Scotland, the tradition became a two-day event, starting with “hunting the gowk,” in which people were sent on phony errands (gowk is a word for cuckoo bird, a symbol for fool) and followed by Tailie Day, which involved pranks played on people’s derrieres, such as pinning fake tails or “kick me” signs on them.

In modern times, people have gone to great lengths to create elaborate April Fools’ Day hoaxes. Newspapers, radio and TV stations and Web sites have participated in the April 1 tradition of reporting outrageous fictional claims that have fooled their audiences. In 1957, the BBC reported that Swiss farmers were experiencing a record spaghetti crop and showed footage of people harvesting noodles from trees; numerous viewers were fooled. In 1985, Sports Illustrated tricked many of its readers when it ran a made-up article about a rookie pitcher named Sidd Finch who could throw a fastball over 168 miles per hour. In 1996, Taco Bell, the fast-food restaurant chain, duped people when it announced it had agreed to purchase Philadelphia’s Liberty Bell and intended to rename it the Taco Liberty Bell. In 1998, after Burger King advertised a “Left-Handed Whopper,” scores of clueless customers requested the fake sandwich.
